Description

Visit of the rich historical, ethnographic and archaeological heritage of Terras de Aguiar that is part of Natura 2000 network and home to the Veronica micranta species.

This trail crosses a cultural mosaic composed of chestnut groves, oak groves, and mountain swamps. At the foot of Castelo´s hill, you will be able to follow a short deviation, shared by the “Trilho Interpretativo das Aves de Rapina” short-distance walking trail, and visit the imposing Castle of Aguiar de Pena, erected in a splendid scenery and listed as monument of national interest.

As the trail continues towards the village of Fontes, visitors pass by a plain of verdant meadows punctuated by some oak trees forests and centuries-old chestnut trees.

Besides the visit of the rich historical, ethnographic and archaeological heritage of Terras de Aguiar, the trail is inserted into the Natura 2000 Network, in the Site of Community Importance of the Alvão/Marvão where one of the most important and best-preserved populations of the Veronica micrantha species can be found – an endemic species of flora in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula which thrives in agroforestry areas and by the edges and glades of natural forests.
