The Wonders of Northern Portugal

Begin your adventure by visiting the historic center of Chaves and get to know the history and culture of the people of Alto Tâmega. You can also have a taste of the characteristic “Pastel de Chaves”.

The next day's trail is located in the Peneda-Gerês National Park. Through this walk you will be able to see different species characteristic of this area. After you will get to visit the "Ecomuseu de Barroso" and the Montalegre Castle.

In the 3rd day trail we will visit the rich historical, ethnographic and archaeological heritage of Terras de Aguiar. Crossing it maybe we may see a population of Veronica micrantha species.To finish we will have a taste of the sweets of Aguiar .

The next day of hiking is a a choice between the options via ferrata and walking in Ecovia do Rabaçal. And, to conclude the day, you will visit an emblematic winery and experience wine tasting.

The hiking trail of the 5th day follows through the village of Murça toward Tinhela river. In this day you will get to know more about Murça, namely about the most decorated Portuguese soldier of World War I - the “Soldado Milhões” and the history of the Sow of Murça, among others.

The following day trail takes place in the Serra de Santa Comba where we find the largest concentration of recent Prehistoric schematic painting in Portugal, a unique cultural heritage with potential for tourism relevance in the regional and national context. After the hike we will experience olive oil tasting.

The trail of the next day encompasses the protected area of the Montesinho Natural Park and comprising the village communities of Aveleda, Varge and Rio de Onor that are one of seven wonders of Portugal. To finish we will visit a typical mill and forge that are symbols of sharing of this community.

The next trail is in “Geopark Terras de Cavaleiros” and the Azibo Protected Landscape, that is partly located on the "Morais" Community Interest Place, of the Natura 2000 Network. Afterward we will visit the "Casa do Careto" of Podence. The “Careto” is a symbol of the Northeastern culture and are the representation of diabolical images, through a mask and clothes, usually they go out on the street at the time of entrudo (carnival) or events of great cultural importance. It is said that whoever wears these costumes is authorized to do everything, even what is not normally authorized.

The walking trail of the 9th day is linear, starts near the Sanctuary of our Lady of the Assumption, it passes through the village of Vila Boas, and ends in Vilarinho das azenhas. We will experience the rich heritage of the villages and see the imposing landscape of Faro Mountain.

In the next day we will do two trails. The first heads toward Pinhal do Douro and the second toward Villarinho da Castanheira. Throught the hike we will see various buildings that were witness to the way of life of this village population at the end of the 19th century and mid of the 20th century. We will end this day with a visit to the Rural Memories Museum.

The next hiking trail starts from Provesende, one of the six wine villages in the Douro region, and finishes in Pinhão. There we will visit an emblematic winery and taste the regional wine.

The trail of the 12th day starts in Favaios, one of the 5 villages in the Douro Demarcated Region that is officially known as “Aldeia Vinhateira” (wine-growing traditional village) and where you will get to know the famous “Favaios bread” and the well-known and distinctive Favaios Moscatel wine.

The following day trail begins in Póvoa de Varzim and finishes in Apúlia and, because of the simplicity of the people found there, is one of the most unique routes.

In the 14th day we have a visit to he Historic Center of Porto. After you are free to visit this city at your own pace.

In the last day is the departure.
