What is the time zone in Portugal?

Portugal is in the same time zone as most of Western Europe (UTC+00:00), which is +5 hours (Eastern Standard USA), +8 hours (Pacific Standard USA time), and -10 hours (Australian Eastern Time). Due to differences in daylight savings, there may be a +1-hour difference.

What should I wear to go for a walk?

You should wear comfortable clothes and shoes. In some cases, and depending on the season, it is advisable to use walking boots.

Can I visit a place that is not mentioned in your program?

Yes. Even though we offer a varied range of walks and places to visit, all our programs are open to suggestions and modifications requested by our guests. If it is possible and there is availability, we will do our best to fulfil your request(s).

What are my responsibilities as a PORTUGALNTN guest?

As a PORTUGALNTN guest you acknowledge the community´s central role and, whenever you travel, you always apply the principles of social and economic justice, respecting the environment and local culture.

Why should I choose a guided tour?

By choosing a guided tour, it means that an expert guide from PORTUGALNTN will accompany you from the beginning and until the end of the chosen program.
Your expert guide will provide you with all the background information on every place you visit, making sure that you get a more authentic experience.

When should I choose self-guided tours?

If you choose a self-guided tour, PORTUGALNTN will provide you with access to a map, some information and refreshments. Luggage transfer is also available for our guests.
By choosing this option, you will be able to enjoy this experience alone, safely, and without getting lost.

What is included in the total price of the trip?

In the description of each of our programs, you can find out about what is included and what´s not.
Besides that, personal accident insurance as well as civil liability insurance and refreshments are always included in all our programs. A guest relations representative from PORTUGALNTN will coordinate and support your stay during your trip.

How can I choose a walk that is suitable for my physical condition?

You will be able to find all the necessary information regarding distances and difficulty levels of our hiking tours by clicking on the “Walking Grades” tab.
You will also find a description and the difficulty level of the available walks when you read about each and every one of our programs.
Also, we can customize our hiking tours to adapt them to our guests´ needs and physical condition. If you wish to enjoy a customized hiking tour, please contact PORTUGALNTN so that we can fulfill your request.

What kind of accommodation should I expect during my stay? (NOTE: One-day programs do not include accommodation)

In each program you will be able to find out about the accommodation type where you will be staying.
The accommodation type will vary according to the program you choose.

How will PORTUGALNTN guides provide support during the walking tours?

PORTUGALNTN guides will guide you through a specific itinerary, chosen by you.
They will ensure that you do not miss any of the hidden gems that may appear along the way, being the best storytellers so that you learn everything about the places you will visit.

Is there a minimum and a maximum number of participants per group?

At PORTUGALNTN we enjoy working with small groups as we believe that it is the best way to live a more authentic and exclusive experience.
Our groups range from 1 person (minimum) to 12 people (maximum).
For groups with more than 12 people, please email us with your specific request.

How can I book a program with PORTUGALNTN?

If you wish to book a program with PORTUGALNTN, please send us your request at: walking@portugalntn.com, specifying the number of people and intended date.

How does luggage transfer work?

At the beginning of each day, we will collect your luggage and deliver it to the next accommodation. You will find all the complementary information in your personal travel document.

What are your payment terms?

After getting the confirmation and in order to secure your booking, we request a 30% deposit of the total amount. Full payment will be required within 40 days prior to your arrival.

What are your payment methods?

How much should I tip?

Tipping is totally voluntary. Thus, it is at your discretion. It should be given as a reward for great service.

Should I get travel insurance?

We recommend that you sign up for your own travel insurance for your whole stay in our country.

What is your cancellation policy?

In case of cancellation between confirmation and 30 days prior to the day of the tour, 10% of its full cost will be charged.
In case of cancellation up to 29 - 21 days prior to the day of the tour, 50% of its full cost will be charged.
In case of cancellation 20 - 11 days prior to the day of the tour, 75% of its full cost will be charged.
In case of cancellation less than 10 days prior to your arrival date, 100% of the full cost of the tour will be charged.
There will be no refunds for unused portions of the tour.
Postponing or rescheduling a tour is considered on a case-by-case basis, but is in, no way, guaranteed. Postponing or rescheduling a tour is subject to the cancellation charges above.

OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES

Any outdoor activities are susceptible to the weather and/or any other related conditions beyond the control of PORTUGALNTN. Our local guides are best suited to assess adverse weather and/or any other related conditions, and to make a final decision as whether it is safe or not to carry on with the activities. If, in the sole opinion of the local guides, conditions are considered unsafe to enjoy the activities, they will cancel them and a full refund will be credited. In the event, however, that the guest chooses, for whatever reason, to cancel its participation in the activities, there will be no refund due.
